Tom
Tom plays Flea’s bass parts. In the Peppers, the bass does more than back the band up: it’s often the song itself.
What he does in the show
Around the World, Give It Away and Suck My Kiss revolve around a bass line you recognise within two bars. Tom plays them with the slap technique Flea is known for, and in Under the Bridge and Scar Tissue he pulls back to melody and space.
Together with Jan he drives the band. When those two lock into the groove, the room follows on its own.
