✱For village fairs and funfairs
A packed marquee, from teens to grandads
At a village fair the whole street stands in front of the stage. You want songs everyone knows: Can’t Stop, Dani California, Californication. We play them in a marquee, at the funfair or on the square on King’s Day.
Music for the whole village
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been on the radio since the nineties. Parents know Under the Bridge, their kids know Snow (Hey Oh). At a village fair we play the 60 to 75-minute festival set or two sets of 45 minutes, hits back to back.
Running the fair with a volunteer committee? You get one contact person at our end. What we bring is on our tech page; the organiser checklist helps you sort out the rest.
What to think of with a marquee or outdoor stage
- A roof over the band
We play electric instruments. An outdoor stage needs a roof or canopy, even if the afternoon is sunny.
- Power at the stage
We agree beforehand how many circuits we need. Ask the marquee company what’s available apart from the bar and the fridges.
- A level floor
A stage or floor that doesn’t wobble, with room for four musicians and a drum kit.
- Permit and sound
Amplified music outdoors usually needs an event permit or a notification to the council. The permit or the local bylaws set how late and how loud you can go.
- The music licence
In the Netherlands the organiser pays the performing rights for live music to Buma. Check whether your association or the venue already has a licence.
Does it fit your programme?
At a village fair you often alternate with a DJ, a brass band or another act. Send us the schedule; we play within the slot you give us and clear the stage for the next act. See also what we do at festivals.
Questions from fair committees
Do you play for an audience of all ages?
Yes. We then choose the songs everyone knows and save the long jams for a club.
Does the stage need a roof?
Yes. We play electric instruments, and rain and power don’t mix. What happens in a storm, we put in the agreement.
Can you alternate with a DJ or another band?
Yes. Send us the programme and we play in the slot you plan.
How far ahead should we book?
As early as you can. Send a request as soon as you have a date.
