What is a tribute band?

A band that plays the music of one well-known artist, as close to the original as it can. A cover band plays songs by all sorts of artists. There is more in our article on what a tribute band is.

How much does a tribute band cost?

It depends on the length of the set, the travel distance, the sound and lighting needed and the date. Most bands do not give a fixed price; you get a proposal. Our page on what a cover band costs explains how to compare quotes.

How long does a tribute band play?

That is up to you and the band. At a festival one set of 60 to 75 minutes is usual, in a bar two sets of 45 minutes, at a party often three sets around the programme.

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as you know the date. On a popular date every band has less room. Give a few possible dates if you are flexible.

Can I choose the songs?

Usually you choose from the band's repertoire. Make one list of songs that must be in and one of songs you can do without. You can ask for a song the band does not play yet; do not count on it.

Does a tribute band also play songs by other artists?

A true tribute band plays only its own artist. If you want more variety, choose a cover band, or ask whether the band will add a few extra songs.

Who arranges the music licence?

For a public performance the organiser or the venue arranges the licence: in the Netherlands with Buma, the Dutch music rights organisation, and in Belgium with SABAM. Many bars and venues already have one. For a private party among family or friends it is usually not needed.

Does a tribute band bring its own sound?

That varies. Ask what the band brings and what the venue has. De Peppers bring their own mixing desk; PA and lighting we agree per show.

What does a tribute band need at the venue?

Power at the stage, a flat and dry spot, a roof over the band outdoors, and a short route for loading and unloading. It is all in our checklist for organisers.

Is a tribute band connected to the real artist?

No. A tribute band plays the music as a tribute and has no link with the artist or their management. So De Peppers are not the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Can I see a tribute band live first?

Ask the band where it is playing soon. De Peppers play Soos Plock in Volkel on Saturday 12 December 2026: doors 8.30 pm · band on at 9.15 pm.

You want to book a tribute band and still have questions. Below are the answers we give most often to organisers of festivals, bars and parties. If your question is not here, add it to your enquiry.
